"Hey, does anyone know..." is the cost

Every Slack workspace runs the same pattern. The question lands in #general or a project channel. Two or three people stop what they're doing to answer it. The answer's slightly different each time because nobody can find the canonical document. A week later, the same question appears from a new starter and the loop repeats.

Multiplied across a hundred-person org, that's not "asking a colleague", it's a tax on attention. The people with the most context are the ones interrupted most, and the institutional knowledge stays trapped in whoever happens to be online.

What AnswerVault changes

Mention @AnswerVault in any channel, DM, or thread. The bot retrieves a grounded answer from documents you've approved, replies in-thread with a citation, and keeps the answer visible for the next person scrolling past.

It's not a chatbot. It doesn't generate plausible-sounding nonsense when the answer isn't in your documents. If the policy isn't there, it says so, and the next time someone asks the same question, the answer is already in the thread.

  • Threaded by default. Answers post in-thread so channels stay tidy. Citations link back to the source document.
  • Admin-scoped. The tenant admin chooses the SharePoint sites, Drive folders, and Confluence spaces that feed AnswerVault. Everything they connect is queryable by everyone in the tenant, nothing outside is.
  • Audit-logged. Every query lands in your tenant's audit trail, useful for compliance reviews and incident response.
  • Cross-ecosystem. SharePoint, Google Drive, and Confluence indexed together. The team using Google Workspace gets the same answer as the team using M365.

Where it works in Slack

Public channels

The high-volume Q&A surface. People-ops questions in #people, support questions in #cs-internal, engineering runbook lookups in #infra. The answer goes in the thread and the channel becomes a searchable record, not a queue of unanswered pings.

Private channels and DMs

For sensitive topics like performance, contractual, or security questions, AnswerVault works in private channels and DMs with the same governance. The answer set is the same curated knowledge base the admin connected; the Slack channel just decides who sees the question and reply.

Threads

When a teammate asks a question in a thread, mention @AnswerVault and the answer joins the conversation. Doesn't fragment the discussion. Doesn't drag the whole channel in.

The audiences this changes most

Engineering teams

"How does the auth flow work?" "Where's the runbook for the staging environment?" "What did we decide about Kafka?" The cost of senior engineers context-switching to answer L1 questions is real; most teams just absorb it. AnswerVault gives juniors a way to get unstuck without pinging a principal.

People Ops

"What's the parental leave notice period?" "Are we doing carry-over this year?" The #people channel is where these land. AnswerVault answers from the version of the handbook in force today, with a link to the doc.

Sales enablement

"What case studies do we have for healthcare?" "What's the SLA we offer enterprise?" "What's the latest pricing sheet?" Arm the sales team with the right material during the call, not after.

Customer support

"What's the workaround for the sync issue?" "Is there a known incident affecting EU customers?" L1 support agents find the answer in the same Slack workspace they're already in, with citations they can reference back to the customer.

The governance layer

For regulated organisations, this is the part that matters more than the channel.

  • Curated knowledge bases. You pick the SharePoint sites, Drive folders, and Confluence spaces that feed answers. Nothing outside that set surfaces.
  • Cited every time. Every reply includes a link to the source document. No "trust me bro" answers.
  • Audit trail. Tenant-level log of every question and answer, useful when an auditor asks how your team accessed the current SOP.
  • EU/UK hosted, with a non-US sovereign tier for organisations needing to resolve CLOUD Act exposure.

Why not ChatGPT or Claude in Slack?

Both have Slack apps. Both will produce confident-sounding answers. Neither persistently indexes your SharePoint, Drive, or Confluence; neither cites the source policy; neither logs queries against your tenant for audit. They're great general-purpose assistants, they're not a governed knowledge layer.

For "summarise this email", they're fine. For "what's our retention period for client records?", you need an answer grounded in your actual documents.

Available on Pro and above

Slack is included on Pro (£7/user/month), Business (£14/user/month with data residency and SSO), and Enterprise. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.

No migration required

Works on top of your existing tools.

AnswerVault doesn't replace your document stores. Your files stay in SharePoint, Google Drive, and Confluence exactly where they are. AnswerVault connects via secure OAuth, indexes the content you choose, and gives your team a single place to ask questions across all sources.

Sources

Your documents stay where they are.

Nothing moves. AnswerVault reads from your existing sources via secure OAuth connections. No migration, no duplication, no new tools for your team to manage.

Control

You choose what gets indexed.

Pick exactly which folders, drives, or spaces to include. Add or remove sources at any time. Only the content you select becomes queryable.

Reach

One search across everything.

Instead of searching SharePoint, then Drive, then Confluence, your team asks one question and gets an answer drawn from all connected sources, with citations.
