Quickstart

Before you start

You'll need:

  • An email address to register the account
  • Permission to grant a connector OAuth access to one document source (SharePoint Online, Google Drive, or Confluence). The connector uses your existing access, so AnswerVault sees what you see, nothing more.

Important: Everything you connect is queryable by every user in your tenant. Pick folders and spaces deliberately, and don't include content you wouldn't share with the team.

1. Create your account

  1. Go to app.answervault.ai/auth/registration
  2. Register with an email and password
  3. You'll land on the chat interface with an input box at the bottom

2. Connect a document source

  1. In the side nav, open Connectors
  2. Click Connect
  3. Pick a provider: SharePoint Online, Google Drive, or Confluence
  4. Authorise AnswerVault when redirected to the provider's OAuth screen
  5. Back in AnswerVault, pick the folders, drives, or spaces you want indexed
  6. Click Save & sync to start the sync job

The sync runs in the background. Small sources finish in a few minutes; large ones take longer. You can watch progress on the Syncs page — see Syncs for what a sync actually does.

For OAuth scopes, admin consent, and per-provider gotchas, see Connectors.

3. Ask your first question

Open the chat (the home screen, /) and type a question in plain English. Don't wait for the full sync to finish — AnswerVault will answer from whatever's already indexed.

Some questions to try:

  • "What's our data retention policy?"
  • "Summarise the findings from the last internal audit"
  • "Who's responsible for GDPR compliance in the EU subsidiary?"

If AnswerVault can't find an answer in your documents, it will say so rather than guess. For more on how to phrase questions, see Asking questions.

Where to go next

  • Connectors. OAuth scopes, what gets indexed, how to add more sources.
  • Syncs. What a sync does, how long it takes, how to manage running jobs.
  • Asking questions. Patterns that work, what to do when there's no answer.
  • CLI. Query from the terminal or pipe results into scripts.
  • How it works. The conceptual model behind the product.
  • Architecture. RAG agent, knowledge graph, vector store, inference layer.
